Destination Gisborne – the Edge of the World – First City in the World to see the light.

When planning your 09 event calendar here is a new challenge for you. The only one day cycle event over 200kms in New Zealand.


Into its 3rd year now this 204kms of cycling takes you through some of the most picturesque scenery on the East coast of the North Island. Starting in Gisborne the course takes you via SH2 South to Wairoa. Continue through the outskirts of the town and head towards Lake Waikaremoana. 7kms up this road turn right onto the Tiniroto Road and traverse the rivers farm lands and a few rather testing hills with equally testing descents back to the start finish line. You have now completed the GWAloop (Gisborne to Wairoa Loop) Cycle Challenge.  Make up a team of 2, 3 or 4 or take on the whole challenge as a solo entrant.


 Come and enjoy the country hospitality. Cycle on Saturday and attend the renowned Wine & Food Festival on Sunday. Into its 10th year now it is well placed on the calendar of Wine & Food festivals. Sip some of the Chardonnay grown in the Chardonnay Capital of New Zealand. Enjoy the local Rose with options of Sauvignon Blanc Geuwertzstraimaner amongst other new options. Taste the many food outlets specialising in locally grown products. Relax with fellow cyclist’s family and friends and drive home on Monday.
